Retraction & Correction Statement
Journal of the West is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. This policy outlines the procedures for correcting, retracting, or issuing expressions of concern for published content when necessary.
Purpose of the Policy
The journal recognizes that, despite rigorous peer review and editorial processes, errors or ethical concerns may arise after publication. The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparency, accountability, and trust in the academic record.
Corrections
A correction (also referred to as an erratum or corrigendum) will be issued when:
Minor errors are identified that do not invalidate the overall findings or arguments
Errors in author names, affiliations, references, or factual details are discovered
Clarifications are needed to improve accuracy or understanding
Corrections will be clearly linked to the original article and will describe the nature of the amendment.
Retractions
An article may be retracted if:
There is clear evidence of plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification
The findings or conclusions are shown to be unreliable due to serious error or misconduct
The work constitutes redundant or duplicate publication
Ethical standards have been seriously violated
Retractions are issued to correct the scholarly record and are not intended as a punishment for authors.
Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be published when:
There is credible evidence of potential misconduct
An investigation is ongoing and a final decision has not yet been reached
Serious questions have been raised about the integrity of a published article
This notice will remain in place until the issue is resolved.
Investigation Process
Allegations may be raised by readers, reviewers, editors, or institutions
The editorial board will conduct a fair and confidential investigation
Authors will be informed of the concerns and given an opportunity to respond
Decisions will be based on evidence and ethical standards
Where appropriate, the journal may consult external experts or relevant institutions.
Retraction and Correction Notices
All notices will be clearly labeled and permanently linked to the original article
Retracted articles will remain accessible but clearly marked as retracted
Notices will explain the reason for the action without defamatory language
Author and Reader Notification
Authors will be notified of any corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern involving their work. Readers will be informed through visible notices on the article’s webpage.
Indexing and Record Updates
The journal will notify relevant indexing and abstracting services of corrections or retractions to ensure accurate bibliographic records.
Policy Review
This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect evolving best practices in scholarly publishing.
