Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement
Journal of the West is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. This statement outlines the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to ensure transparency, fairness, and trust in the scholarly record.
The journal follows recognized best practices in academic publishing and expects all participants in the publication process to adhere to these ethical principles.
Duties of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are expected to comply with the following ethical standards:
Originality and Plagiarism: Submissions must be original works. Authors must properly acknowledge the work and ideas of others. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, is unacceptable.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Manuscripts must not be under consideration or published elsewhere in substantially similar form.
Authorship and Contribution: All listed authors must have made significant scholarly contributions to the work. Any individual who contributed substantially but does not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.
Data Accuracy and Source Integrity: Authors are responsible for the accuracy of data, interpretations, citations, and references. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data constitutes unethical behavior.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper citation of all sources, including archival materials and unpublished works, is mandatory.
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their work.
Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the editorial process and scholarly record.
Fair Play and Editorial Independence: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination.
Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or editorial staff.
Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are accepted or rejected, based on peer review reports and editorial judgment.
Handling Ethical Concerns: Editors will take appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct, including plagiarism, data manipulation, or ethical breaches, following established procedures.
Duties of Reviewers
Peer reviewers play a critical role in maintaining scholarly quality.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
Objectivity and Constructive Feedback: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear, reasoned, and respectful comments to support editorial decisions.
Timeliness: Reviewers should complete reviews within the agreed timeframe or notify the editor if delays arise.
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and decline review where impartiality cannot be ensured.
Peer Review Integrity
All research articles undergo a blind peer review process. The journal takes reasonable measures to prevent conflicts of interest, bias, and unethical practices during review.
Handling of Misconduct
Allegations of research or publication misconduct are taken seriously.
