The Algerian Folk Proverb as a Reflection of the Collective Folkloric Heritage

Abstract
The Algerian folk proverb is regarded as one of the most prominent manifestations of the collective folkloric heritage, owing to its rich semantic density that encapsulates the historical and cultural experience of Algerian society. This article examines the folk proverb as an oral expression rooted in the collective memory, reflecting the system of shared values and perceptions that have shaped the social consciousness over time. The study focuses on the analysis of selected Algerian folk proverbs to reveal their functions in reinforcing values, guiding everyday behavior, and transmitting life experiences across generations. It also highlights the role of the folk proverb in preserving the continuity of the cultural heritage and ensuring its transmission within the social system, particularly in light of the rapid transformations experienced by contemporary society. The study concludes that the Algerian folk proverb is not merely a transient proverbial expression used in daily communication, but rather a fundamental component of the folkloric heritage and an active element in preserving the collective cultural memory.
