Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to accelerate corporate sustainability by enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and supporting environmentally and socially responsible business practices. As organizations increasingly align their strategies with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AI-driven technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, and intelligent automation are becoming integral to sustainable decision-making. These technologies enable organizations to monitor energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve waste management, strengthen sustainable supply chain operations, and enhance transparency in sustainability reporting. AI also facilitates data-driven governance by enabling real-time monitoring of sustainability performance and improving the accuracy of ESG disclosures. AI into corporate sustainability presents several challenges. Issues related to data privacy, cybersecurity, algorithmic bias, ethical decision-making, high implementation costs, digital infrastructure requirements, and the significant energy consumption of AI systems continue to hinder widespread adoption. Furthermore, organizations often face barriers such as a shortage of skilled professionals, regulatory uncertainty, resistance to organizational change, and difficulties in measuring the long-term sustainability outcomes of AI initiatives. Addressing these challenges requires a balanced approach that combines technological innovation with responsible governance, stakeholder engagement, and supportive public policies.
