The Contribution of Recreational Sport to Attracting Foreign Currency and Enhancing the National Economy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Recreational sport has increasingly become an important component of the contemporary economy, particularly through its close relationship with tourism, leisure, investment, employment, and the movement of visitors across national borders. Beyond its recreational and health-related functions, it can contribute to generating economic activity and attracting foreign currency by encouraging international visitors to spend on accommodation, transportation, food services, sporting facilities, entertainment, and other related services. This paper aims to examine the contribution of recreational sport to attracting foreign currency and strengthening the national economy, with particular emphasis on its potential role in supporting tourism revenues, creating employment opportunities, stimulating investment, and diversifying sources of national income. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach based on relevant literature and economic and sports-related studies. It argues that developing recreational sport within an integrated tourism and economic strategy can create additional opportunities for local economic development and enhance the attractiveness of destinations. The paper also identifies major challenges that may limit this contribution and proposes mechanisms for developing recreational sport as an effective component of economic and tourism development.
