Abstract

Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of health knowledge that places considerable emphasis on maintaining health, lifestyle balance, diet, daily routines, and individualized approaches to well-being. Preventive healthcare focuses on reducing health risks, encouraging healthy behaviours, and identifying problems before they become severe. This paper examines the role of Ayurveda in preventive healthcare and disease management, with attention to lifestyle practices, nutrition, daily routines, preventive awareness, herbal traditions, stress management, individualized care, integration with modern healthcare, and contemporary challenges. Ayurvedic approaches may encourage individuals to take an active role in maintaining healthy routines and recognizing changes in their well-being. Traditional dietary and lifestyle practices may complement broader preventive health behaviours when used appropriately. However, Ayurveda should not be considered a substitute for scientifically established diagnosis, vaccination, screening, emergency treatment, or disease-specific medical care. Evidence for individual Ayurvedic interventions varies, and some herbal products may create safety risks or interact with medicines. The paper argues that Ayurveda can contribute to discussions of preventive health as a traditional and cultural framework, while responsible disease management requires evidence-informed healthcare and qualified professional guidance.
